Opening Xgenia on Mac - Security Settings
If you're having trouble opening Xgenia on your Mac, this is likely due to macOS security settings. Since Xgenia hasn't been signed and notarized yet, macOS may prevent it from opening by default.
Why this happens
Running software that hasn't been signed and notarized might expose your computer and personal information to malware that can harm your Mac or compromise your privacy. macOS includes a technology called Gatekeeper that's designed to ensure that only trusted software runs on your Mac.
How to open Xgenia anyway
If you're certain that Xgenia is from a trustworthy source and hasn't been tampered with, you can temporarily override your Mac security settings to open it.
Step 1: Try to open Xgenia first
- Try to open Xgenia as you normally would
- You'll see a security warning - this is expected
Step 2: Override the security setting
After you've tried to open the app, follow these steps:
- Open System Settings
- Click Privacy & Security
- Scroll down and click the "Open Anyway" button to confirm your intent to open the app
- The warning prompt reappears - if you're absolutely sure you want to open the app, click "Open"
The app is now saved as an exception to your security settings, and you can open it in the future by double-clicking it, just as you can any authorized app.
Alternative: Change app security settings globally
Only do this if you understand the security implications
In System Settings, click Privacy & Security, then scroll down to Security.
Under "Allow apps downloaded from," you can select:
- App Store: Allow only apps that have been downloaded from the App Store
- App Store and identified developers: Allow apps that have been downloaded from the App Store and from developers identified by Apple
Note: These settings might not be available if your Mac is managed by a system administrator or IT department.
